Mixtec 2

The speaker is Felipe Silva from Candelaria de la Unión in the Tlaxiaco District in western Oaxaca.  INALI identifies the Mixtec variant spoken by people of this area as tu’un savi, or “mixteco de San Pablo Tijaltepec.”  Tu’un savi  translates as “language of the rain” – it derives from an earlier time when the Aztecs encountered the peoples of these cloud-shrouded mountains and valleys and took to calling them ñuu savi, “the people of the rain.”
